Changes in 2023 Innova Hycross
The major change is that Toyota has shifted Innova HyCross from the tough body-on-frame IMV platform shared with the Fortuner with its longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive to the more car-like TNGA-C platform with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive. That’s more closely related to the Camry. It’s also much larger than the previous car and crucially gets a 100 mm longer wheelbase. Also, there is no diesel engine now. It is also the first Innova to get a Panoramic sunroof.
Toyota Innova HyCross Exterior: Design and dimensions
Design
Toyota has taken a totally new direction for its most popular MPV Innova. With the introduction of a strong-hybrid system and more premium features, it has improved its class. Toyota has now dropped the body-on-frame chassis and the completely new Innova HyCross is built on the Monocoque platform. Its TNGA-C platform is currently used by Prius, Corolla, Lexus UA, and Frontloader in various countries. It is also the first Innova to be available only with a petrol engine. There is no diesel engine.
The grand appearance of Innova Hycross starts right from the bumper. It has a commanding grille and a stylish bumper.
Dimensions
Innova HyCross is 4755mm long, 1845mm wide, and 1785cc tall. It has a wheelbase of 2850mm. The new MPV is 2cm longer and 1.5cm wider than its previous generation Innova Crysta. It also has a longer wheelbase. You can fill up to 52 liters in its tank. The petrol engine variants G-SLF and GX run on 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/65 size tyres, on the other hand, the Hybrid engine variants VX and VX(O) have 17-inch alloy wheels. The two top variants ZX, and ZX(O) have much bigger 18-inch alloy wheels with much wider 215/65 tyres.
Boot Space
Practicality is always important in an MPV. The Innova has maintained its practicality since its first generation. The same has not changed this time also. With all three rows up, there is a considerable amount of boot space. When the third row of seats folds down, the boot space is extended to 990 liters which is a lot. Another important this is that the tailgate is now powered which gives this MPV a more premium touch.
Engine, Transmission, and performance
Toyota is offering Innova HyCross with Petrol and strong Hybrid engines. Both engines come mated to an automatic transmission system. The two powertrain options include a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, in-line, 16 valves, DOHC, VVTi engine that produces 173HP. The second powertrain option is a 2.0-liter petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. This combined system produces a net power output of 183HP. The former powertrain comes mated to a CVT with sequential shift whereas the latter has an e-CVT with sequential shifting. Innova HyCross has three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Power. The hybrid variants have the option to run in full EV mode also.
Interior: Comfort and luxury
The interior of the Innova HyCross is a pleasant departure from the previous car and looks far more modern and up-market. The dashboard is dominated by a 10-inch touchscreen that sits nicely and high up. The use of soft-touch material around the dashboard, central console, and on door pads gives a more premium feel to the cabin. The steering wheel is also wrapped in leather and it can be adjusted for rake and reach.
The touchscreen is nice and big. It is placed high up in the line of sight. The infotainment system has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but its functionality is almost basic. It does not have a built-in navigation system. On the other hand, the 7-inch Digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel is more informative. It gives basic information like speedo meter, and trip computer but it also gives info about ADAS and how they are working at any given time? It also gives info about how the power is made in the hybrid and how it is flowing?
Like Innova Crysta, Innova HyCross also comes with 7 and 8-seater configurations. For the 7-seater, the second row has powered Ottoman seats with long slides. The front and second-row seats are power adjustable with a memory function for the driver’s seat. The cabin has two climate zones with ventilated seats.
There are sufficient charging USB type A and type C ports in all the rows. Overall, the cabin of the new Innova HyCross gives a premium feel. It has sufficient and comfortable leg spaces in both the second and third rows.
Safety features
Toyota has assembled almost all of the safety features in the new Innova HyCross as you would find on its rivals of the same price range and segment. Innovo HyCross has six airbags in the top three variants. It has the mandatory driver and co-passenger airbags in the base model as well. The standard features include Vehicle stability control, Hill-start Assist, EPB with auto hold, ABS with EBD, Front and reverse parking sensor, Reverse parking camera, ISOFIX with tether anchor, and immobilizer.
Apart from this, the top variant ZX(O) also has Toyota Safety Sense System. This system has some Advance Drive Assistance features (ADAS) like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor, Pre-Collision System, and Auto High Beam.
