- Self-charging hybrid luxury MPV
- comes at a price of INR 89.9 lakh
- gives an experience of executive lounge
2021 Toyota Vellfire is a lounge on wheels, the only hybrid MPV available in India. Vellfire is a combination of green technology and premium luxury. It is a self-charging vehicle that means it utilizes the energy from the engine to charge its batteries and run the motors
2021 Toyota Vellfire – engine and performance
The 2.5L or 2494cc gasoline hybrid engine supplies power to the wheels and the motors of the MPV. The engine is capable of supplying 115 BHP (86kW) of max power and a peak torque of 198Nm @2800-4000rpm. Considering the size of the vehicle, the engine needs more refinement, power, and torque. Vellfire also has two electric motors one at the front and another at the rear axle. The front electric motor has a power rating of 105kW while the rear motor supplies 50kW of max power. The MPV uses an automatic CVT to transmit torque to the wheels.
The 2021 Toyota Vellfire Executive lounge uses an electric four-wheel-drive which means power to the rear wheels is supplied by the electric motor when required. The hybrid vehicle automatically engages the rear motor when the loss of traction is recorded. It can also be run on 4WD when the driver needs it but only for a shorter duration of time.

The Nickel Metal Hydride charges from the power of the engine. Also when the batteries run dry, the excess energy from the engine is directly got transferred to the electric motors. This hybrid combination of gasoline engine and electric motors give a good fuel efficiency to the MPV. According to other media reports, Toyota Vellfire delivers fuel efficiency of 16.35kmpl. It is fairly good mileage for this size of the vehicle.
2021 Toyota Vellfire – inside and outside looks
Exterior
The Toyota Vellfire looks more like a van than an MPV. The car is not designed for heavy traffic roads. The long-distance between the front and the driver’s seating position makes it hard to drive in heavy traffic. But surely, it is a car for longer distances. From the outside, Vellfire gives an impression of a semi-forward driver position but that’s not the case from the inside. The dashboard has depth more than normal. That makes the driver’s seating position not so useful for congested traffic.
The bonnet is quite chunky and the longer bumper looks more like a skirt. But overall the front bumper is very much bulky in both looks and size and the chrome accents improve its presence.
It has two headlamps on the front – one on the grille and another on the bumper. They are designed and placed as such like you have a double vision problem. The split headlamps look overall stylish. The bumper also houses triangular-shaped fog lamps.
The side of the Vellfire runs almost flat up to the rear. The only curves it receives are from the wheel-arches at the front and rear. The same can be said for its rear windows. The MPV runs on 17-inch wheels that are quite small for a vehicle of that size. Vellfire is bigger in size than Innova Crysta but it uses the same 17-inch wheels that are also offered in Innova. For this size, 19-inch wheels should be offered.
A big chrome insert at the middle of the tailgate gives it a premium look at the rear also. The rear spoiler at the rear tries to improve its bulky look. But it fails to make it look sportier.
Vellfire looks very bulky from the outside. It is so much big in size that it can accommodate the whole Innova in it. The MPV is almost 5m in length, 1.8m wide, and 1.9m high. It has a wheelbase of 3m which is again longer than Innova Crysta.

The Executive interiors
The hybrid system of Toyota is also offered on Camry but what makes this MPV so much costly are its interiors. The main attraction of the MPV is its 2nd row that offers an executive lounge experience. The 7-seater configuration of Vellfire offers captain seats at the front and the second row. However, the seats in the 2nd row are more like a recliner couch. That offers extra comfort and luxury. The armrest contains a lounge command center. It has buttons to control everything from the seat reclining to temperature control. There is also a heating and massage option on the control device.

The infotainment screen in the middle of the dashboard supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also features inbuilt navigation with audio. Available 16-colors ambient lighting will definitely set the mood of the passengers.
Safety & security
In the safety area, Toyota has tried to turn every stone. It has 7 SRS airbags including side curtain airbags. As said earlier, Vellfire is not good for congested roads. 2021 Toyota Vellfire variants and price
2021 Toyota Vellfire comes in only variant – Hybrid Executive Lounge. All the features are standard on the vehicle and there are certain chrome finishes are available as accessories to further enhance its appearance. The price for this luxurious MPV starts at INR 89.90 lakh. The only MPV that competes with this and comes in this price range is the Mercedes Benz V Class. Kia Carnival is also a luxury MPV that can be considered before going for this costly MPV. Of course, Kia Carnival does not offer that much luxury but it is a good option at a lesser price.
Vellfire is well equipped with modern-day technology to provide the best riding experience to the passengers. But considering its price of INR 90lakh, we find this MPV costly.
