Maruti has a rival to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks, and MG Astor in the name of the all-new 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. It’s just a model of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Design
Exterior
In terms of size, the Grand Vitara measures 4.3 meters long which is par for this midsize SUV segment. Now in terms of looks, it is quite similar to what we’ve seen from Suzuki’s international range. If you’ve seen the latest generation of S-Cross, you will find a few similarities. There is a healthy use of chrome on the upper portion of the grill and surrounding the grill itself. It also has three-point LED DRLs again that split headline setup that we’ve seen across more and more SUVs. The main headlights are positioned lower down. It also gets a mock scuff plate and Suzuki will be offering a lot of accessories to jazz up the look of the Grand Vitara. The Grand Vitara runs on 17-inch rims with a diamond-cut finish. The wheels look quite classy though there is quite a bit of a gap between the rims and the squared-out wheel arches. It also gets the roof rails however, they are not functional and would only be for design.

On the rear end, there is a connected lighting theme that runs across the width of the boot. It’s a design element that we’ve seen on the latest SUVs. There is a nice use of gloss black materials and you can embellish the lower portion of the bumper to your liking.
Grant Vitara luggage space
Now talking of luggage space, the tailgate lifts up to reveal quite a large luggage area. In the case of the full hybrid version, the luggage is quite less because the batteries are placed in the boot space. The seats are split 60:40 if you need more space. Suzuki has not provided the exact numbers for the boot space yet.
Interior
Inside of the Suzuki Grand Vitara feels familiar and that’s because it is identical in its dashboard layout to its cousin from Toyota Hyryder. The dashboard gets the same layered look. There is a metal finish around the dashboard. Qualitywise, it does look quite nice and has the best quality as compared to other Maruti products so far. The dashboard houses a 9-inch floating-type touch screen in the middle of the dashboard. The infotainment screen offers Suzuki’s SmartPlay Pro+ that comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The interior of the SUV gets leatherette upholstery. The seats are quite nicely cushioned and feel large and supportive. The front seat also gets ventilation on high-spec variants. The new Brezza is the first Maruti to get a sunroof and now the Grand Vitara is the first Maruti to get a panoramic sunroof.
On the inside of the Grand Vitara, the seat is quite comfortable. However, the space is not much class-leading. The headroom is a bit tight for someone with a 6-ft height. and it also does not have sufficient width to accommodate three persons comfortably for a long ride. A third person might be a bit of a squeeze but the seat comfort itself is very good. The seats are very well cushioned and all three seats get adjustable headrests. The backrest angle is also adjustable. There is a dropdown armrest with two cup holders along with AC vents with blower control and two USB charging including USB-C type also.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Engine, Transmission, and performance
The Grand Vitara gets two petrol options with some level of hybridization. The 1.5liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine makes 103HP and it’s available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and also gets all-wheel drive. This is Suzuki’s all-grip all-wheel drive system. Fuel economy numbers are positive. It ranges between 19 to 21kmpl for the mild hybrid engine. The strong hybrid version that Maruti is calling “Intelligent Electric Hybrid (IEH)” comes with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine working on Atkinson cycle mated to a stronger 80.3 horsepower electric motor. This system gives 28kmpl on the ARAI test cycle.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Safety and Security features
